Salary Cap Handicap System
To promote league balance and allow all owners to remain competitive, our league employs a Salary Cap Handicap system. This system provides a larger salary cap to owners based on their career performance and division standing, giving weaker-performing teams a financial advantage to improve their rosters.
How It Works
- Initial Period (1965-1967): For the first three seasons, everyone operates under the same base salary cap of $100,000,000.
- Implementation (1968 Offseason): Starting with the 1969 season (calculated after the 1968 regular season), owners are ranked based on their performance.
Ranking Criteria
Rankings are calculated using career data accumulated up to the most recent completed regular season. The following factors are used in order of priority:
- Current Division: Owners in higher divisions (A > B > C) are ranked higher.
- Career Win Percentage: Total wins divided by total games played.
- Playoff Performance: Total number of career playoff wins.
- Championships: Total number of Super Bowl wins.
Cap Increments
The amount of advantage given is periodically adjusted:
- Seasons 1969 - 1973: The increment is $1,000,000 per rank.
Rank #1: $100,000,000
Rank #2: $101,000,000
...
Rank #15: $114,000,000 - Seasons 1974 onwards: The increment increases to $1,500,000 per rank.
Rank #1: $100,000,000
Rank #2: $101,500,000
...
Rank #15: $121,000,000
Note: The League Admin has the authority to adjust these increments during the seasons they apply to, in order to maintain the desired competitive balance.
